Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 18, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information The Dorm Haul ("we," "us," "this site") collects when you visit thedormhaul.com, how that information is used, and the choices you have. By using this site, you agree to the practices described here.
Information We Collect
We do not require you to create an account or submit personal information to browse this site. The information we do collect falls into two categories:
- Automatically collected data. Like most websites, we (and the third-party services below) automatically collect standard technical information when you visit — your browser type, device type, approximate location (city/region level, from IP address), pages viewed, and how you arrived at the site. This is collected through cookies and similar tracking technologies.
- Information you provide directly. If you contact us by email, or sign up for our free dorm checklist, we'll have whatever information you provide — typically your name and email address. We use this only to send the requested download and occasional related emails, which you can unsubscribe from at any time.
Email Sign-Up (Dorm Checklist)
If you submit your email to download the free dorm checklist, that submission is processed through Netlify's form handling service. We use your email to send you the checklist and, if you don't opt out, occasional emails about new guides or dorm-related content. We don't sell or share this list with third parties. You can ask us to remove your information at any time by emailing help@thedormhaul.com.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use them to:
- Remember basic site preferences and understand how visitors use the site (analytics).
- Support affiliate link tracking — see the Amazon Associates section below.
- Measure the performance of content shared to platforms like Pinterest.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings. Doing so may affect how parts of the site function, but you can still browse and read content with cookies disabled.
Amazon Associates Program
The Dorm Haul is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by linking to Amazon.com. When you click an Amazon link on this site, Amazon may set a cookie on your device to track that the referral came from us, so that we can earn a commission if you make a qualifying purchase — at no additional cost to you. Amazon's own use of this data is governed by the Amazon Privacy Notice, not by us — we don't see your purchase details, only aggregated reporting on clicks and commissions.
Analytics
We may use analytics services (such as Google Analytics or a similar provider) to understand how visitors use the site — which pages are popular, how people navigate between them, and general traffic trends. These services may use cookies and similar technologies and may collect information such as your IP address. This data is used in aggregate to improve the site and is not used to personally identify you.
Third-Party Links
This site contains links to third-party websites, primarily Amazon product pages. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those external sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any site you visit after leaving thedormhaul.com.
Children's Privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will remove it.
Your Choices
You can control cookies through your browser settings, and many browsers let you block third-party cookies specifically while still allowing the site to function. Some analytics providers also offer their own opt-out tools (for example, the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on).
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
