Dorm decor, researched before it's recommended.
The Dorm Haul is a dorm-room styling guide built for one job: helping incoming and returning college students furnish a small, shared space with confidence. We treat every recommendation the way an interior designer would treat a client brief — considering the room's constraints, the student's style, and whether a product is likely to hold up through a school year.
Who's Behind The Dorm Haul
The Dorm Haul is run by a recent college grad with firsthand experience furnishing three very different kinds of small spaces: a dorm room, a sorority house room, and student apartments. That's the perspective behind every pick on this site — not a marketing team guessing what a dorm needs, but someone who's actually done the move-in, the roommate compromises, and the "does this even fit" measuring tape moment more than once.
How We Choose Products
We don't personally test every product on this site — we research it. Every pick goes through the same process before it earns a spot here, and that process is public:
- Ratings and review volume. We look at a product's overall rating alongside how many people have actually reviewed it — a 4.8-star rating on 12 reviews tells us a lot less than a 4.4-star rating on 3,000.
- Competing products. We compare a pick against similar products in the same category before deciding it's the one worth featuring.
- Dimensions and dorm compatibility. We check that a product's actual size works in a standard dorm room — under a Twin XL bed, in a shared closet, on a small desk.
- Price against a student budget. We weigh cost against what a full room refresh realistically looks like on a student's budget, not just what's popular at any price.
- Recurring complaints. We read through negative reviews specifically, looking for patterns — a single one-star review means little, but the same complaint showing up repeatedly is a real signal.
- Fit for the specific use case. We select products for what a dorm room actually needs, not just what's trending.
If a product doesn't hold up to that process, it doesn't make it onto this site — regardless of how it photographs. That's the standard behind every "View on Amazon" button here.
How Affiliate Links Work
The Dorm Haul is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases — at no additional cost to you. This never influences which products we choose to feature; a pick earns its place through the process above first, and the affiliate link is simply how we keep the site running.
How Often We Update
Product information is reviewed periodically, with priority given to price, availability, and major listing changes. Popular pages and seasonal guides (move-in checklists, best-sellers) are checked more frequently than less-trafficked pages.
Corrections Policy
Prices, availability, and even product listings on Amazon shift constantly — if you spot something on this site that's out of date, broken, or just wrong, let us know at help@thedormhaul.com and we'll take a look.
Researched, not trending
We prioritize durability and real reviews over what's simply popular on social media.
Styled by aesthetic
Every pick is organized by a real design direction — minimalist, boho, vintage, coastal, or gaming — not a generic "dorm stuff" dump.
Budget-aware
We flag our most affordable picks so a full room refresh never feels out of reach for a student budget.
